Can I extend my policy dates to cover me if it runs out while I’m still overseas, or will I have to buy a new policy?

For International and Australian Comprehensive policies:

If you have a Return Trip or a Multi-City Trip policy and want to change the dates of your trip to return later, you can ask us to extend your policy. We will consider your request if you ask us prior to the Policy End Date shown in your Certificate of Insurance, and you haven’t claimed or experienced a loss, and you’re not aware of any circumstances that could reasonably lead to a claim. If we agree to extend your policy, we may require an additional premium. Any additional premium must be paid before the extension takes effect.

Your policy may be extended as many times as you need in order to complete your trip, up to a total of 365 days from the Policy Start Date, but you must apply for each extension prior to the Policy End Date (including the Policy End Date shown in any subsequent Certificate of Insurance we issue to you after a previous extension request). If we agree to extend your policy, we won’t insure you for any events or set of circumstances that you were aware of at the time you extended your trip that could reasonably be expected to lead to a claim.

You cannot extend a One-Way Trip policy.

To extend your policy, call us on 1800 954 270 (within Australia) or +61 3 9522 4840 (from overseas), Monday to Friday 8 am to 7 pm AET, and Saturday and Sunday 9 am to 4 pm AET.

For Annual Multi Trip policies:

You cannot extend the Policy End Date shown on your Certificate of Insurance, or extend insurance benefits for any one trip beyond 45 days under this policy.

If you are travelling for longer than 45 days you can, however, apply for an International Comprehensive or Australian Comprehensive policy as applicable by calling us on +61 3 9522 4840 to insure the additional days, from the 46th day and up to a maximum of 365 days from the date you commenced your trip.
