What is an excess?

An excess is the amount you may have to pay when you make a claim on your home and/or contents insurance. For example, you have an excess of $700 and your home is damaged in a storm, and the repairs end up costing $10,000, you only have to pay $700 - we would pay the rest.

In some circumstances, additional excesses may also apply.
