What are the preventative dental changes and what does this mean for you?

From 2 June 2025, we’re introducing changes to preventative dental services such as check-ups and cleans, to align with clinical best practice. Whilst your annual limits will not be changing, we’re introducing service limits to twice per calendar year for some preventative dental services. We’ve also reclassified some general dental services to preventative dental.

This change is to align with industry wide best practice and helps ensure the long-term affordability of dental benefits for our members.

What is a service limit and how does it differ from an annual limit?

Service limits means there’s a cap on how many times you can claim per calendar year for certain services. For example, if there is a service limit of twice per year on preventative dental check-ups, you will only be able to claim for this service twice in a calendar year.

Whereas, annual limits are the total amount of money your insurance will pay for a specific extra service within a year. For example, you might have a $300 annual limit for preventative dental check-ups. Once you've claimed a total of $300, you won't get any more money back for dental check-ups until the next year.

What does this mean for you?
