Does my policy cover a cruise?

Qantas Travel Insurance policies offer some cruise cover benefits depending on which policy you take out. We’ve listed the benefits below. If you have any questions, or would like to chat through your options, please give us a call on 13 49 60 (within Australia). We’ll be happy to help. 

Qantas Travel Insurance – Australian Comprehensive policy

  • Will cover your domestic cruising activity under all policy benefits (subject to the normal terms, conditions and exclusions of those policies). This may include if you have to cancel your cruise or suffer loss or damage to your personal effects during a cruise.
  • Does not currently include cover for a medical evacuation benefit from the cruise ship or cover any medical expenses incurred whilst on a cruise ship. 
  • Does not include cover for medical evacuation or medical expenses incurred whilst on Australian soil, such as when you are on an excursion from the cruise ship. 
  • This cover has limits on benefits. You can read more about them here.

Qantas Travel Insurance – International Comprehensive policy

  • Will cover you while you’re on an international cruise under all our policy benefits (including medical, cancellation and personal effects) subject to the normal terms, conditions and exclusions of those policies. 
  • Includes cover for a medical evacuation benefit from an international cruise ship and medical expenses incurred whilst on an international cruise. 
  • If the international cruise itinerary involves a shore excursion onto Australian soil, the International Comprehensive policy does not by law include cover for medical evacuation or medical expenses incurred whilst on Australian soil. 
  • This cover has limits on benefits. You can read more about them here

Qantas Travel Insurance – Annual Multi Trip policy

Will cover your cruising activity while you’re on holidays, however, benefits may differ based on whether the trip is international or domestic. Please refer to the PDS for further information. 

International trip: 

  • Please refer to the ‘Annual Multi Trip Plan Table of benefits’ in the PDS to understand what benefits are covered. There is no exclusion to benefits specific to cruising if the itinerary includes an international cruise. Please note there must be at least one international port for your cruise to be considered an international trip. Cover is valid for medical benefits including for medical evacuation and medical treatment expenses which may be incurred during an international cruise. 
  • If the international cruise itinerary involves a shore excursion onto Australian soil, an Annual Multi Trip policy does not by law include cover for medical evacuation or medical expenses incurred whilst on Australian soil.

Domestic trip:
