How will we pay physiotherapy claims from 13 January 2027?

From 13 January 2027, the amount you get back for physiotherapy services will vary depending on the provider you visit

From 13 January 2027, we’ll use two different ways to work out what you get back for physiotherapy services. Your level of cover and annual limit will stay the same.

You can still visit any recognised physiotherapy provider. At a First Choice physiotherapist, you’ll continue to get a percentage of the provider’s fee back, based on your level of cover. At a provider outside the First Choice network, you’ll receive a set amount back for each eligible service.

First Choice providers have agreed fees with nib, helping give you more certainty about your out-of-pocket costs. Non-First Choice network providers set their own fees so your out-of-pocket cost may vary depending on the provider’s fee, the service you receive and your level of cover. Before treatment, check whether your physiotherapist is in the First Choice network and ask them for a quote or cost estimate. This can help you understand what you may get back and what out-of-pocket costs you may incur.

Check your physiotherapist or find a First Choice physiotherapy provider

Before your next appointment, use the Find a Provider tool to check whether your physiotherapist is in the First Choice network. If they are, you’ll continue to get a percentage of their fee back, based on your level of cover. If they aren’t, you can still visit them and receive a set benefit towards each eligible service from 13 January 2027. Your level of cover and annual limit will stay the same.
