What is Qantas Health Insurance doing to help reduce out-of-pocket expenses?

Last financial year, our partner nib invested in ways to reduce out-of-pocket costs. Members saved more than $40 million# by seeing a No Gap dental or optical provider, and almost a third (30%) of all hip or knee replacement patients avoided out of pocket costs (excluding excess by using our Clinical Partners program.

Members also continue to have access to tools that make it easier for our members to know what to expect before going to hospital or visiting a medical provider and help minimise out-of-pocket expenses.

Going to Hospital

If you have an injury or health concern and need to go to hospital, you can find out what options you have as a member to get the most out of your health cover. Log in to your account online and look for ‘Going to Hospital’ to do a cover check and see cost information for your procedure.

Find a Provider

Members are able to leverage our underwriter nib's relationships with selected providers to find specialists in your area (via the Find a Provider tool) who participate in the nib MediGap scheme or have a no-gap agreement with nib, as well as private hospitals that have agreements with nib.

Members can also use the Find a Provider tool to access a network of Extras treatment providers such as dentists, physios and optometrists. By choosing to see a provider in nib’s network you get access to quality care and services at competitive rates.

# Member savings are based on the average out of pocket cost applied to charges for preventative dental services and optical appliances by providers not participating on our No Gap First Choice network, and compare the total number of no gap services for nib members to the average out of pocket cost for the full financial year 1 July 2024 - 30 June 2025.
