What's changing with my optical benefits?

From 13 January 2027, we’ll use two different ways to work out what you get back for eligible optical items. This won’t change the optical items you’re covered for or your annual optical limit, and you can still see any recognised optical provider in Australia.

From 13 January 2027:

  • If you visit a First Choice network provider: There’s no change to how benefits for eligible optical items are paid. You’ll continue to receive the percentage of the provider’s fee that applies to your level of cover.
  • If you visit a non-First Choice network provider: You can still visit a non-First Choice provider and the items and annual limits you’re covered for will stay the same. From 13 January 2027, you’ll get a set amount back for each optical item you’re covered for. Non-First Choice providers set their own prices, so your out-of-pocket cost will depend on the item you purchase, what the provider charges and the set amount we pay.
