What does our Australian travel insurance cover?
Children Covered
Children under 12 are covered at no additional cost with all of our policies provided they are travelling with an adult on a trip.
Cancellation Costs
Up to $5,000 cover for trip cancellation costs if you get sick before or while you’re on your trip.
Trip Delay
Up to $600 cover if your pre-booked public transport is delayed from departing for more than 6 hours.
Rental car excess
Up to $8,000 (per policy) to cover the insurance excess if you have an accident or if the car is stolen.
Luggage & personal effects
Up to $5,000 cover if your luggage is lost, stolen or damaged while travelling, plus up to $600 to replace any essentials if your luggage is delayed by at least 6 hours.
Australian Comprehensive travel insurance benefits
- Travel costs related to cancelling or shortening your trip.
- Cover if your pre-booked public transport such as a flight or train trip is delayed by at least six hours.
- Rental car insurance excess if you have an accident or if the car is stolen.
- Replacement cost for luggage that’s lost, stolen or damaged while travelling.
- Replace essential personal belongings if your luggage is delayed by at least six hours.
What's not covered
- Epidemics or pandemics (except for you, someone travelling with you or your relative being diagnosed with COVID-19).
- Government imposed travel restrictions.
- Medical conditions that are not automatically included by the policy, or those for which optional Existing Medical Conditions cover has not been applied for and approved.
- Luggage that’s left unattended.
- Costs for any routine pre-natal care at any stage of pregnancy, and costs for childbirth or post-natal care if you are more than 26 weeks pregnant at the start of or during your trip.
- Extreme or competition sports.
- Snow sports such as skiing unless you purchase the Snow Sports Cover option.
- Going on a multi-night cruise unless you purchase the Cruise Cover option.
Optional cover for our Australian Travel Insurance
You may want to consider the following optional cover for added protection. These are available when you purchase your travel insurance policy at travel.insurance.qantas.com or by calling 13 49 60, unless noted otherwise below.
Cruise Cover
Cover for your domestic multi-night cruise, for things like the cancellation of your cruise before the cruise departs, onboard medical expenses, missed shore excursion(s), ship to shore evacuation and missed embarkation.
Snow Sports Cover
Cover for snow sports such as skiing, snowboarding and tobogganing while on your trip. It provides cover for costs for damaged equipment, pre-paid lift passes, lessons or ski gear hire and if the ski field is closed.
Specified Items Cover
Cover for items valued higher than our standard benefit limits if they are lost, stolen or damaged on your trip. Items that can be listed include smartphones, laptops, camera equipment and sporting equipment.

Existing Medical Conditions
Cover for existing medical conditions that are not automatically included under our policy. You can complete the online medical assessment when you’re purchasing the policy and we’ll tell you immediately if we can cover your conditions and if there is an additional premium payable. There is no cover for any medical expenses and medical evacuation under the Australian Comprehensive plan except as provided under Cruise optional cover.

Why not consider our Annual Multi Trip policy? Designed for frequent travellers with cover for an unlimited number of trips within Australia and overseas in a 12-month period. Each trip can be up to a maximum of 45 days. Trips within Australia must be more than a 100 km radius from your home or usual place of work in Australia.
