Who determines when, and by how much, premiums change?

Private health insurers operate in a regulated environment where the Federal Minister for Health must approve any changes in health insurance premiums.

Each year, health funds apply to the Federal Minister for Health to review premiums.

Following approval from the Federal Minister for Health, we normally increase our health insurance premiums from 1 April, however this year we postponed the increase for seven months to help reduce the financial pressures on our members. The price changes will now come into effect from 1 November 2022.

Our focus remains on keeping health cover affordable for our members, however, premium changes are required to ensure we can continue to protect our members’ health when and where they need it.
