Bushfire Relief for Health and Life Insurance Customers

Our thoughts are with those affected by the bushfires. If you are a Qantas Health or Life Insurance customer directly impacted by the fires, we’d like to offer a helping hand.

If you’d like to find out more about Qantas Group relief and recovery program and help make a difference visit us.

Health Insurance policyholders

Premium waivers

We’d like to help our customers by offering a health insurance premium waiver for three months. This is available to all existing Qantas Health Insurance policyholders who qualify for the Australian Government Disaster Recovery Allowance or the Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment.

The health insurance premium waiver means that eligible members and their policy dependants will effectively get free health insurance (based on their current level of cover) for three months.

Am I eligible?

To be eligible you must be receiving the Australian Government Disaster Recovery Allowance or the Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment in relation to the bushfires.

Additionally, you must hold an existing policy as at 13 January 2020 or, if you took out a policy after that date, you must have held your policy for at least three months prior to applying.

How do I apply?

If you meet the eligibility criteria listed above, simply send an email to hello@qantasinsurance.com with:

  • a copy of your approval to receive the Australian Government Disaster Recovery Allowance or the Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment, or any other document that verifies you are receiving this assistance;

  • your Qantas Health Insurance policyholder number; and

  • your residential address.

Or, post this information to us at Qantas Health Insurance, Locked Bag 2010, Newcastle NSW 2300.

I’m not receiving disaster assistance from the Australian Government. Can I still apply for the premium waiver?

Unfortunately, our health insurance premium waiver is only available to customers  who are receiving the Australian Government Disaster Recovery Allowance or the Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment.

However, if you have concerns about maintaining your health cover please contact the team on 13 49 60 to discuss your options.

Life Insurance policyholders

Premium waivers

For customers: To ensure our customers and their families who are directly impacted by the bushfires can maintain the insurance cover they need, and to provide some financial relief during this difficult time, we’re offering a premium waiver for up to three months. This is available to all existing Qantas Life Insurance and Income Protection Insurance policyholders who qualify for the Australian Government’s Disaster Recovery Allowance or Payment.

For volunteer firefighters: We also recognise the heroic efforts and personal sacrifice of those who are on the front line fighting fires in a voluntary capacity. Therefore we’re also offering a premium waiver for up to three months to those who are part of the volunteer fire organisations taking unpaid leave from their regular employment and who hold Life Insurance or Income Protection Insurance policies directly with Qantas Insurance.

Am I eligible?

To be eligible you must be receiving the Australian Government Disaster Recovery Allowance or the Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment in relation to the bushfires.

How do I apply?

Customers can call our Customer Service team on 1300 479 581 to apply.

I’m not receiving disaster assistance from the Australian Government. Can I still apply for the premium waiver?

Supporting bushfire claims

We are processing bushfire related Life and Income Protection claims as quickly and pragmatically as possible, particularly where personal paperwork has been possibly destroyed or delayed. We will work with customers to determine alternatives for paperwork such as identification and death certificates to ensure their claim is assessed and processed as quickly as possible.

Supporting the health and wellbeing of our customers is a priority for us and we understand that in these challenging circumstances, assistance like this can make a difference.

Supporting each other

The outpouring of support across the country, and the world, has been welcome and inspiring. It is often at times like these that we see people and our community at their best. We encourage you to share this message with anyone who needs support.
